Here we go, possibly the coolest bookmarklet ever(?):

  !lineDraw (drag to Links-bar)

An adaptation of Glen Murphy's clever js/vml linedraw at bodytag.org. The bookmarklet overlays a transparent iframe over the current page, pointing to milov.nl/code/linedraw.html, in which multiple lines can be drawn using the mouse. Handy for quick mockups and whatnot. Should also be helpful in preventing people from touching the screen during a presentation (beh, fingerprints).

IE6 required (maybe IE5.5 works too.)
Update: yep, also works in IE5.5.

hi Milov

try a different approach to make yer code faster

document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML + ...
which means the browser has to parse the complete document.body
again. Don't add to innerHTML, use
document.body.insertAdjacentHTML('beforeEnd', 'html here')
as that way the insertion is done much more efficiently.

Armand

PS: woking on a all browser version, think we should get that to work with Create Element

I'd kill for this in Mozilla. Also, how about a complementary bookmark for turning line drawing mode off? As it is I have to reload the page to get rid of the lines (and go back to being able to click on links) - a bookmark to get rid of the iframe and gpo back to standard navigation mode would be very useful.

For this situation I'm using "line" element and the problem is that the points drawn does not seen at the position that I pointed with mouse. I use X=event.clientX and Y=event.clientY for the mouse position. Did you encounter this kind of problem? Thanks

According to the W3C recommendations, it applies to block level elements only in CSS1. In CSS 2 it applies to all elements.

A case of trial and error for which browsers support it I guess.

If all goes well, the new weblogs.com should automatically be 'pinged' when I save this entry, indicating latest update...

Yay, it worked! I simply execute the following command along with the MySQL INSERT statement (haven't yet figured out all that XML-RPC stuff):

$ping = file('http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm?name=milov.nl&url=http://milov.nl/');

Hmmm, have to tell Bob about this... Maybe he can implement it in Pivot.

3. posted by Bob at 09:50 on November 09, 2001

The forthcoming beta will have this feature. I also used the form trick, instead of figuring out how to do it the hard way.

4. posted by pup at 16:29 on November 09, 2001

it's not soap or xml-rpc and it's not as simple as milov's code, but here's how to do it in asp:

Sub pingWeblogs(name, url)
Dim objXML
Dim strURL
strURL = "http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm "
strURL = strURL & "?name=" & name
strURL = strURL & "&url=" & Server.URLEncode(url)
Set objXML = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP")
objXML.Open "GET", strURL, False
objXML.Send
Set objXML = Nothing
End Sub

pingWeblogs("TastyLog", "http://www.tastylog.com/ ")

5. posted by pup at 16:30 on November 09, 2001

doh. watch taht wordwrap on the "CreateObject" line.

there's also a semicolon after the first strURL line as well. no idea why.

6. posted by pup at 16:41 on November 09, 2001

i'm also retarded. there's no parentheses on sub calls.

7. posted by milov.nl,milo,milov at 16:41 on November 09, 2001

that semicolon is werd. something to do with my url2link function, but i don't see how.

Okay, here's another quick one: !elInfo - lets you hover over elements to see their html code in the statusbar. Handy if you forgot the class or id of certain elements. Note: it shows IE's rendition of the html tag, not the actual tag as typed. Source:

javascript:void(document.onmousemove=new Function('window.status=event.srcElement.outerHTML'))

Incremental zoom bookmarklets: !ZoomInIn and !ZoomOutOut (drag to Links-bar). Works best in IE5 (IE6 won't resize positioned elements). Source:

javascript:if(!document.z){void(document.z=1);}void(document.z*=2);void(document.body.style.zoom=document.z);void(document.body.parentNode.style.zoom=document.z);

javascript:if(!document.z){void(document.z=1);}void(document.z*=0.5);void(document.body.style.zoom=document.z);void(document.body.parentNode.style.zoom=document.z);

Update: I forgot, pup already made these.

3. posted by pup at 20:43 on November 06, 2001

the zoom out has a factor of 2. should be 0.5.

4. posted by pup at 20:44 on November 06, 2001

also, since i upgraded to ie6 here at work, they do nothing on pages that have positioned content (here, tastylog, etc), but normal table-layout pages are fine (cnn, yahoo, etc).

5. posted by 23JUL at 03:04 on November 07, 2001

It doesn't really work on your page, Milo. ;-)

6. posted by milov.nl,milo,milov at 07:44 on November 07, 2001

Argh, I noticed... Worked fine in IE5.5 at work, but not in IE6 here, coz of my positioned content (like pup said). Maybe the trick is to loop thru all the elements and set zoom properties for each one...
