This text is posted via Phoenix 0.1 - a lightweight Mozilla version for Windows. With its customizable toolbar and small icon set it's a comfortable browsing experience comparable to IE. Although I still miss my SHIFT-Spacebar keyboard shortcut for scrolling up (am I the only one using this?). [via ext|circ]

Personal estimation of most-used left-side keycombos:
1. Alt-Tab (switch window)
2. Alt-Spacebar, X (maximize window)
3. Ctrl-W (close window)
4. Win-E (open Explorer)

1. posted by bill at 17:48 on September 25, 2002

alt-spacebar, N : to minimize a window. I use this constantly.

2. posted by poi at 17:54 on September 25, 2002

I didn't knew the SPACE / SHIFT+SPACE shortcut.

I most use Alt-Tab, Win+D ( Desktop ), Ctl+W, F6 ( Location, without opening the history menu ), Win+TAB

3. posted by milov at 18:27 on September 25, 2002

Instead of F6, I use Alt-D (also near bottom-left).
Win+Tab is interesting...

4. posted by Ruben at 19:26 on September 25, 2002

1. Win+E
2. Win+M (Minimize all, equivalent to Win+D?)
3. Alt+Tab
4. Alt+F4

If you like using the Win-Key, you might like the WinKey application(http://www.copernic.com/winkey/)

5. posted by Ruben at 19:27 on September 25, 2002

Hmmm, immediately after typing this, I discovered I forgot my most used surfing keyboard shortcut in IE: Alt-D.

Mozilla:
1. Ctrl+L (go to Location bar, == Alt+D in IE)
2. Ctrl+T (open new tab)
2b. I've set Ctrl+Click to open a new tab instead of a new window
3. Ctrl+W (close a tab/window)
4. Ctrl+2 (open Mail/News)
5. Ctrl+R (reply)

Mozilla rocks.

I have keyboard shortcuts to all my most-used programs. I right-click on their shortcuts on the Start Menu and click on properties. There, on the shortcut keys field I create a combination of Ctrl+Alt+Shift and a letter that reminds me of the program (W for Word, C for CorelDraw, D for Dictionary, and so on). It really whips the llama's ass! :o)

12. posted by Low at 08:37 on September 26, 2002

Ctrl+N, Ctrl+D, Alt-Tab, Ctrl+W, Win+E, Win+M...
Shift+Click is also a frequently used combination. And when I'm programming, I can't do without Ctrl+R (rather than F5).

13. posted by gallico at 14:27 on September 26, 2002

To addition to what have already been mentioned;
Ctrl-Z,Ctrl+Y,
Ctrl+Insert,Shift+Insert,(Shift+Delete).
And no, I don't use the Shift+Space, uses Home instead.

14. posted by Bob at 18:46 on September 26, 2002

Since i'm using mozilla gestures, i find that i'm using a lot less keyboard shortcuts: click-down = open link in new window, click-up= open link in tab. click-down-right = close window/tab. etc.

only problem is, i try to use gestures in every program now, like in trillian and my mail-client.. :-/

I just added a little extra javascript for Internet Explorer users, to apply some handy filters to any photo featured on this page:

- Shift-click a photo: Rotate 90°, 180°, 270°;
- Ctrl-click a photo: Desaturate (remove colours);
- Alt-click a photo: Invert colours.

Try it with some of the photos below! You can even combine filters. All this by setting one global document.onclick event (no need to add specific tags to each <img>-tag). View Source to see how it's done.

The 256b.htm compo list of entries has been released but you can't view 'em yet, and since I can't wait to show them here are links to local copies of my entries:

- Entropy [source] (249 bytes, IE-only)
Non-interactive animation using css dashed borders.

- Snowflake Generator [source] (245 bytes, IE/Mozilla)
Infinite variety of random snowflakes. Refresh for more.

- Multiplayer Keyboard Racer [source] (256 bytes, IE-only)
Find some friends, have each one select a key and start bashing on the keyboard. The player whose bar first reaches the other side of the window wins.

4. posted by milov at 08:19 on September 02, 2002

Nice one, poi. Seeing your code made me realize that I could have made the Racer even smaller (e=event wasn't necessary) and wouldn't have had to use "2" instead of the word "to". Oh well, that's what you get for coding something 1 hour before the deadline.

5. posted by poi at 10:11 on September 02, 2002

milo: AFAIR the smallest size I got with this hack was ~230bytes, but who cares since it fits in the size limit. Personnally I like your _this_.innerHTML thingy
