Salon.com - Everything you wanted to know about "Mulholland Drive" - That clears some things up... I want to rewatch this film but it's almost too scary; especially the scene where the two guys leave the diner and walk towards the "monster" around the corner. [via another fine mess]

This article completely confirms my deduction. hoorah.

sometimes when i go for a run, i run to this viewing point on top of the mountains, that has an amazing view of LA.

at one point in the movie, they mention the directors house address. 6980 mulholland drive.

i decided to type that in mapquest. and whadayaknow? its that viewing point i always run to.

I watched it yesterday (completely wasted drunk) and this film is really eating my brains out. The way Lynch plays with the public (us) in this movie is amazing. No hay banda.

5. posted by cruiserlover at 21:08 on December 05, 2004

hey, just saw the film... realized it's really awkward to watch with your parents. Thanks a lot David Lynch. Had to deal with aggressive female masturbating and lesbianism in vicinity of parents.

6. posted by Jen at 01:24 on November 21, 2007

Just watched film other day. Have to say it is my best by far of lynch's. The scene in silencio really is heartbreaking with the song crying. Here we begin to understand there is an element of unrequited love before the real Diane appears. This love is not returned by Camilla furthermore the fame Diane desired from Hollywood is also part of this scenario. It is a very bittersweet tale of how the dreams and hopes of these starlets are not fulfilled. The real Hollywood is not a glittering place but represents broken dreams and failed careers.

Reminds me of 'electronisch ganzenbord', a boardgame, which was a basic source code published in a dutch magazine for a V20/C64. It was presented as a family game, so to compete, no annoying monitor was used: the keyboard was the board; you had to place the pawns on the keys and walk in a spiral kind of way to the 'end'. As far as I know, dice and/or errors were created by letting the motor of the tape'streamer' create noises and score was presented by resetting the counter to 0 and letting the computer decide when to stop playing(=counting).

Some more Windows tips then...

- When you Shift-click a Start menu item, the menu stays open (instead of closing instantly), while the selected application loads in the background.

- Press Ctrl-+ to auto-size all columns in any Details-view (such as a listing of files in Explorer).

- If you've activated the Desktop toolbar on your Taskbar, you can Ctrl-click the My Computer icon to open up a cascading menu giving access to all drives, folders and files on your computer.

All the time. I even bookmarked the DTD with a custom keyword in Mozilla (xhtml) so I can reach it instantly. I did have to use JavaScript to not have it pop up the save dialog:

javascript:void(window.location = 'view-source:http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd');

I type "xhtml" in the toolbar, and I get some excellent late night reading. ;-)

2. posted by 23JUL at 21:25 on December 04, 2002

I once tried but never finished to create a php script which parses (the?) dtd to create 1) a kind of navigation tool to create correct xhtml pages (e.g. html tag must have two children: head and body tag; head tag may have ..) 2) a kind of randomizer which uses the grammar to create correct but senseless xhtml pages.

Still stuck at the parsing part; first started to create a simple bnf parser with the help of these pages: http://cui.unige.ch/db-research/Enseignement/analyseinfo/
But haven't got a clue which is the best way to parse things in php (that is: what is the datastructure?

Any idea's?

3. posted by Liorean at 12:19 on December 05, 2002

Of course I've read it - I use it more than I use the W3C HTML specs...

But currently, I'm more interested in XML and writing my own DTD for BlogML - and when writing a DTD, a former DTD can be an excellent example of how to write a new one.
