milo: what about some sort of local cache for these icons? the page starts to load slower and slower already.

(and animated favicons are so pre2k)

16. posted by Milo at 15:30 on December 01, 2004

Some icons load slow but that shouldn't have an effect on pageload (other than the annoyance of seeing the throbber animate a little longer). But I want to try caching anyway, in case people start changing their icons retroactively.

Note: you might have noticed the big slowdown around 15:11 - 15:15 (and repeated every hour); that's caused by some cron-job outside of my control (from a separate site running on this server) :/

otherwise it simply uses :

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

Does it break with your favicon detection in a way ?

28. posted by Milo at 20:46 on January 21, 2005

I'm looking into it :)
My php routine probably doesn't send any userAgent, so it should trigger the second line. Should still've worked though :/

29. posted by Mathieu 'P01' HENRI at 20:58 on January 21, 2005

What is a "real" photo? This may be a photo of a "real" scene in the external instrumentally verifiable non-virtual objective world, but what if it isn't?

Milo, the angle, the fog, the proximity all conspire to make me feel uncomfortably close to the scene.

I half expect a semi-vampire to partially emerge from the incomplete shadows and fractionated haze.

Half-Life 2

After too many failed attempts to buy Half-Life 2 Silver via that Steam thing, I decided to just buy the regular DVD version in the store last thursday. Which installed fine, yay!

I'm playing it on Hard to make sure I don't breeze through it too quickly, which seems to be working: I'm already going to have to go back to an earlier saved game because I won't be getting past those manhacks with no ammo + 15% health. An opportunity to enjoy the amazing scenery some more.

Everybody knows what those things are: alien candle snuffers from outer space, here to turn our lights off and bring solemn darkness to our hapless unhappy planet.

I like the first one best. At first, I thought they were Professor Rosmund's gigantic mutated preying mantis pets escaped from his dubious lab, but no. They're still there. I checked.

I looked at digital cameras at Walmart tonight. Gonna ask Santa for one.

Can you operate them cybernetically, hence via computer controls, in the comfort of ones own home?

I'd like to swing them around aggressively and make them fight each other to the death, even though I'm a pacifist at heart.

Can you make them move secretly and impress your girlfriend that you have supernatural powers so she better be nice to you?

I like how my identification of exactly what those structures below the clouds are is just beyond my understanding. They look like breasts, but seem to be rooftops, but exotically odd. Chimneys? On residential rooves? roofs?

For some reason, with my own art, I usually ask if a work would make a nice music CD cover or a book cover. If not, I doubt how good it is. I don't see my digital paintings as wall decorations, unless to cover over a hole.

This would make a nice CD cover for a recording by Alvin Lucier, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Hovhaness, or Stockhausen...maybe Schoenberg or Berg.

Sure the comic is great ... but what did they/he do to the PowerPuff Girls U__U
Their cuteness and little size took a huge part in the comic of the situations.

Well, honestly I have to admit it could make an amazing twist/spin off to the original PPG and Dexter animes. Cartoon Network might consider this.

The best thing i've seen in quite a long time. Really, it should touch the feelings of every anime/animation/manga and specially the CN universe fan. If you are at least two of these things, know that the PPG Doujinshi will touch you for sure. Rally.
The story is both a manga and Cartoon Network style. Maybe a little more manga, which strenghtens it and makes it deeper. The way all the characters are mixed in a single, before unseen universe gives you unique and magnificent experience
Bleedman, I thank you and bow to the work you've done. Did you do ALL by yourself?

sen9 aka three-letter-poet
Mouse movements generate random three-letter-strings. When it hits an actual existing english three-letter-word, the word is added to the main sentence (click to start a new sentence).
sticky drag blocks
Drag-and-drop collision-detection experiment.
bgrotate
Multiple layers of a simple pattern rotating at different speeds (runs a lot faster in IE than in Firefox).

By allowing myself to classify things as unfinished/dump, the threshold for release is a lot lower, and it's nice to get things out there in this form; I hope to do more posts like this.

Currently installed Firefox extensions:
ChromEdit, ColorZilla, IEView, View Cookies, Linky, Digger, Add Bookmark Here, Autohide, Go Up, Undo Close Tab and EditCSS.

Of these, Undo Close Tab is the one I miss the most after every fresh new Firefox install. Always a shock if I find out too late I've forgotten to install it... :)

Who is crossing the border, and why have a festival about it? I don't get it? Nice photo, though, especially with the headphones on the soundboard.

I hope to make more like this. The light/water seems particularly beautiful this time of year.

Dunno yet... But my site is hosted on the only one of our servers that can't be rebooted from distance, so it took a while.

zo'n remote stekkerdoos met een ip adres, ik zeg je: daar moet je gewoon een bananenstekker op zetten. Okay, als je de ene reboot dan gaan er meerdere down maar het heeft wel wat... toch?

very beautiful Milo.

I express my sorrow here now for the murder of Theo van Gogh. This tree reminds me of how fragile we are, especially artists.

I have a memorial artwork for Theo on my art blog gallery site, if anyone would like to see it.

Pray that Peace Rules in this rotten stinking world of hate, lies, and expensive coffee.

After watching the first two episodes, I just might agree with you on that one. Spannend!

Ooh, to not have had to wait a week between each of the first 7 episodes, anxiously wondering what will happen next... I envy you :)
