I figured my main template was as good a place as any to experiment with a little inline DHTML scripting... Check out the new 'Tiny Color Slider' box near the bottom of the sidebar - you can drag the three sliders to change the background-colour of the big square.

The script is somewhat similar to the one I used to realise the mouseover effect for the menu above; it's all about shifting background-images - no layers required.
