Xitami Webserver Question(PLz Read) | SAndy, 021224 08:02 |

I downloaded Xitami webserver some time ago and installed it in C:\Xitami (The default location). It works perfectly when I try it from my own computer by typing http://MyIpAddress but when I ask a friend to try it from their computers they get the "This page cannot be displayed" error message as if the server does not exist even though I have the server running and my computer connected to the internet. Do I need to do anything regarding the DNS or what? Please tell me how to get around this problem. I would be extremely grateful to you for your help. Thanks and regards. |

Most cable ISP's here block all ports below 1000 (with some exceptions ofcourse) maybe your port 80 has been blocked by your ISP. Possible solution is to move the webserver to another port and include that port in the URL http://MyIpAddress:6581

The IP 192.168.1.48 is an internal IP. This can be your computer's IP on your local network or maybe your ISP provides everyone with a local IP and let them connect throught a proxy or NAT. I created a little script for you that shows you what IP you have: http://www.fuckhedz.com/ip.php |

Looks like your real IP (the one which can be seen by the outside) is 202.138.96.137. Let a friend try to connect to that one :)

I suppose you use NAT to share your Internet at home?

Network Adress Translation, it's a way of sharing your connection with multiple computers. When you run a server on a client that's behind the server people won't be able to access it (unless you go through the hassle of port forwarding on the server) :\

you can always try port forwarding, works fine but can be tricky to set up :\ There's a little explanation of it here: http://www.homenethelp.com/web/explain/port-forwarding-dmz.asp If you're behind a broadband router you should be able to enable port forwarding through its web-based admin. Otherwise just ask whoever is in charge of the computers at your place. |
