June 2003 (continued)

Idea: to compile a list of current stories, meaning any tv series, book or movie with a continuing narrative that I'm reading/watching and haven't yet reached the end of:

24 (in the middle of S2)
Angel (waiting for S5)
Firefly (cancelled after ep. 10)
Hellsing (at ep. 8)
LOTR The Two Towers (1/4th remaining)
Stellvia of the Universe (at ep. 6)
Samurai Jack (at ep. 4, ignoring horrible Dutch dubs on tv)
Six Feet Under (waiting for S2)
The Day of the Triffids (only a few pages left)
The Matrix Trilogy (waiting for Revolutions)
The Quiet American (paused halfway)
The Sopranos (somewhere in S3, currently rewatching S2)
Wolf's Rain (at ep. 14)
...

Also, sort of:
Aeon Flux (still haven't seen all eps to be able to fully comprehend the story overall world view)
Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (at ep. 14; if there is an overencompassing story arc, it's rather subtle)
...

Salon.com - Everything you wanted to know about "Mulholland Drive" - That clears some things up... I want to rewatch this film but it's almost too scary; especially the scene where the two guys leave the diner and walk towards the "monster" around the corner. [via another fine mess]

Help me out, what movie am I thinking of? (Seen on tv 10 years or so ago.)

Situation: a group of men, crashed in the desert. One man convinces the others he can build a plane to fly them all to safety. Which gets their hopes up, then down, as someone confronts him: "We didn't know you've only built toy planes?!"

To which he responds: "A toy plane is something you wind up and let ride on the ground!" (Meaning his miniature planes are not toys, because they actually fly.)

Watching Office Space. The talk about the penny-stealing-computer-hack-scheme. I thought: "Hey, that sounds like Superman 3." Which was promptly confirmed by one of the main characters. What a neat film...

Do you have bandwidth to spare? Download some cool movie-trailers (direct-download links in parentheses):
- Mission Impossible 2 (18MB)
- Dinosaur (21MB)
- X-Men (11MB)

This Japanese site has a bunch of X-Box photos and three movies for download. I like the butterfly demo (9MB).

There's also a new Thief 2 movie (11MB).

The Corporate Downloads page at microsoft.com is a handy alternative to Windows Update. Unfortunately, it still doesn't offer direct-download links (that Getright might catch).
