To further confuse the Mozilla/Phoenix naming issues, in 1986 a company called Firebird published a game called Chimera!

Q. How can I use the registry to include all file types in a file system search under Windows XP?

A. To use the registry to include all file types in a file system search, perform the following steps:

1. Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex registry subkey.
3. Double-click FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions, set the value to 1, then click OK.
4. Close the registry editor.

Blogzilla - Copy/Paste Long URLs - lots of mail clients unfortunately break long urls into multiple lines when sending. The following Mozilla/Phoenix user.js setting strips out newlines when pasting into the Address bar, saving you the trouble of having to copy and append each line separately to reassemble the url:

user_pref("editor.singleLine.pasteNewlines", 3);

ieHTTPHeaders - "an explorer bar for Internet Explorer that will show you the HTTP Headers IE are sending and receiving." Neato... but is there something like this for Phoenix? [via StronglyTyped.com]

Some more Windows tips then...

- When you Shift-click a Start menu item, the menu stays open (instead of closing instantly), while the selected application loads in the background.

- Press Ctrl-+ to auto-size all columns in any Details-view (such as a listing of files in Explorer).

- If you've activated the Desktop toolbar on your Taskbar, you can Ctrl-click the My Computer icon to open up a cascading menu giving access to all drives, folders and files on your computer.

Ancient Windows trick: if you use the string ".LOG" as the first four characters in a .txt-file, Notepad (or Metapad even) will append the current system date to the end of the file every time you open it, and position the cursor below.

Ha... Phoenix now supports the Shift-Spacebar combo for scrolling up (something I seriously missed when first trying out version 0.1). When did that happen? The funny thing is I got so used to it not working, I don't even need it anymore...

In case any other first-time MSIDVD/WinDVD users like myself are about to search Google for 10 minutes looking for an answer: you can take a screenshot of the current frame by pressing 'P' or by clicking the little camera icon on the expanded toolbar. Screenshots are stored as .bmps in a 'WinDVD Capture' folder in your 'My Pictures' folder.

Or, to put it another way: Woohoo! An infinite supply of Ghost in the Shell desktop wallpapers!

These are quite possibly my two favourite frames of the entire film:

This text is posted via Phoenix 0.1 - a lightweight Mozilla version for Windows. With its customizable toolbar and small icon set it's a comfortable browsing experience comparable to IE. Although I still miss my SHIFT-Spacebar keyboard shortcut for scrolling up (am I the only one using this?). [via ext|circ]

Personal estimation of most-used left-side keycombos:
1. Alt-Tab (switch window)
2. Alt-Spacebar, X (maximize window)
3. Ctrl-W (close window)
4. Win-E (open Explorer)

Still practising with the inkless computer-pen thingy...

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well the Graphire2 handles in everyday Windows use. I was afraid I'd have to continually switch between mouse and pen, but the pen works pretty well as a general mouse-replacement.

Double-click is still tricky, tho - the button on the pen seems a bit too high-up for easy reaching.

oh alright then...
